On November 21, 2024, Latvia continues to feel the effects of a cyclone influencing the weather patterns across the country. While rainfall is expected, it will not reach the intensity observed earlier in the week. The Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology reports that cloudy conditions will prevail, with brief moments of clearing in certain regions.
Precipitation will initially fall as rain, transitioning to sleet and snow. Accumulations of 2-4 cm of snow are anticipated in parts of Kurzeme and Vidzeme. Residents are advised to exercise caution due to impaired visibility and icy road conditions.
Winds from the west and southwest will be moderate to strong, with gusts reaching 15-19 m/s in Kurzeme and Vidzeme, and up to 20 m/s along the coast. Nighttime temperatures are expected to range from -2 to +3 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs will reach 1 to 4 degrees Celsius.
As the cyclone's influence diminishes over the weekend, light precipitation, primarily in the form of sleet and snow, will still be likely across most areas. A snow cover of 2-4 cm is projected, with localized increases of 5-6 cm in parts of Vidzeme on Friday.
The Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology warns of icy roads and reduced visibility during snowfall. Winds will gradually subside, with gusts of up to 15-17 m/s expected along the coast and in eastern regions on Friday. A cooler air mass will move into Latvia, resulting in nighttime temperatures dropping to between 0 and -5 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures will not exceed 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
Forecasts indicate that another significant cyclone will approach Latvia on Sunday, bringing additional precipitation and strong winds.
