Severe Cold Hits Denver, Nov 2024

Denver is experiencing extreme cold temperatures as winter sets in, raising concerns among residents about increasing heating costs. Local non-profit Energy Outreach Colorado is actively addressing these concerns by offering financial assistance and energy efficiency programs.

Jennifer Gremmert, CEO of the organization, stated that they aim to inform the community about available programs designed to assist those struggling with energy bills. The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) provides eligible households with up to $1,000 annually for heating costs and equipment repairs.

Additionally, Energy Outreach Colorado offers a weatherization assistance program that provides free energy efficiency services to qualifying residents. A dedicated hotline (1-866-HEAT-HELP) is also available for those facing heating emergencies.

The organization operates with a collective budget of approximately $80 million annually, supported by over 20,000 individual donors. This year, their Energy Assistance Program is projected to distribute around $24 million to help families cope with rising energy expenses.
