Dense Fog Advisory in Romania, Nov 19, 2024

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) of Romania has issued a yellow alert for dense fog impacting 20 counties across the country. The advisory indicates that visibility will be significantly reduced, with conditions expected to persist until 09:00 in some areas.

This weather phenomenon is likely to disrupt road traffic and pedestrian safety, prompting authorities to urge citizens to exercise heightened caution.

The counties affected include regions from Moldova, Transylvania, Muntenia, and the capital Bucharest. Visibility may drop below 200 meters, and in some instances, it could fall to under 50 meters. Additionally, negative temperatures may lead to the formation of ice, increasing the risk of accidents.

In Moldova, the affected counties are Galați, Vrancea, and Vaslui. Transylvania includes Cluj, Alba, and Brașov, while Muntenia covers Argeș, Buzău, Prahova, and others. The municipality of Bucharest is also under alert.

Specific localities such as Focșani, Cluj-Napoca, and Drobeta-Turnu Severin are highlighted as experiencing the most severe conditions. The combination of fog and ice will create hazardous driving conditions, necessitating caution from motorists.

To mitigate risks, the ANM has issued recommendations for both drivers and pedestrians, including reducing speed, using fog lights, and avoiding sudden braking on icy roads. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and the public is advised to follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
