Hurricane Helen Hits Florida, Sept 27, 2024

Hurricane Helen has made landfall in Florida, classified as a 'very dangerous' Category 4 storm. The hurricane struck near Perry, Florida, at approximately 11:15 PM local time on September 27, 2024, with winds reaching speeds of 140 mph (225 km/h).

The U.S. National Hurricane Center had previously issued warnings regarding the severe conditions expected from the storm. As a result, over one million homes are currently without power, and several roads are submerged due to flooding.

This hurricane is considered one of the most significant storms to impact the Gulf Coast in decades. Areas including St. Petersburg, downtown Tampa, Sarasota, and Treasure Island are experiencing flooding, leading to the suspension of flights at Tampa and Tallahassee airports.

Additionally, over 90,000 homes and businesses in Georgia are also without electricity due to the storm's impact.
