NASA SDO Captures Lunar Transit, Mistaken for UFO Near Sun

Edited by: Uliana Аj

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) captured a lunar transit where the moon appeared as a dark orb passing in front of the sun. This event, visible only from space, was mistaken by some as a UFO.

The lunar transit lasted approximately 30 minutes. NASA has clarified that the footage showed the moon eclipsing the sun in a 'lunar transit,' a phenomenon where the moon passes in front of the sun from the perspective of the spacecraft.

A partial solar eclipse will be visible from Earth on September 21, 2025, in parts of New Zealand, the South Pacific, and Antarctica.
