Ecuadorian ufologist Neptalí Mena has reported multiple UFO sightings during camps organized over the past 20 years in Ecuador. Mena consolidates his interest in UFOs in 2004, when he attends his first ufological congress in Vilcabamba, Loja.
August 2017, Laguna Negra, Otavalo: According to Mena, a circular craft with a horizontal band of red lights, about the size of a truck, appeared at approximately 1:00 AM, hovering about 50 meters above the ground.
January 2020, Lagunas de Mojanda, Otavalo: Mena reports that after a group meditation, a light sphere appeared, emitted a flash, and disappeared. Later, around 4:00 AM, observers counted approximately forty circular lights moving in pairs across the sky for about 20 minutes.
Mena and his groups often use collective meditation in remote locations, such as the Lagunas de Mojanda, to attract extraterrestrial contact, claiming telepathic communication yields consistent responses. These events are sometimes organized as "UFO camping" experiences.
