David Attenborough's 'Ocean' Premieres: A Vital Call for Marine Conservation in 2025

Edited by: Aurelia One

David Attenborough's new documentary, 'Ocean with David Attenborough,' premiered in London on May 6th, highlighting the critical role oceans play in planetary health. The film will be available on National Geographic on June 7th and streaming globally on Disney+ and Hulu starting June 8th, coinciding with World Oceans Day.

Attenborough's film showcases the ocean's biodiversity and underscores the impact of human activities, such as destructive fishing practices like bottom trawling, on marine habitats. Enric Sala, a scientific advisor for the film, emphasizes the urgent need to address these practices, which release significant amounts of carbon dioxide and harm marine ecosystems.

The documentary also champions the establishment of marine protected areas (MPAs) and shares stories of ocean recovery in regions where destructive fishing is prohibited. The film's release aligns with the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 in Nice, France, from June 9-13, and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
