The European Union has committed €301.485 million to support sustainable ocean initiatives, marking a significant step towards ocean conservation. The announcement was made at the Our Ocean Conference in Busan, Republic of Korea, held from April 28-30, 2025.
The funding will be allocated to projects focused on critical areas such as the blue economy, combating marine pollution, and expanding marine protected areas. Digital oceans, sustainable fisheries, and addressing the intersection of ocean and climate change will also receive substantial support.
This year's conference, themed "Our Ocean, Our Action," commemorates its 10th anniversary, highlighting a decade of global ocean commitments. The EU's investment aims to foster a safe, secure, clean, healthy, and sustainably managed ocean, with a special emphasis on how digital technology can advance ocean conservation efforts.
