Youth Proposals to Shape Ocean Protection at the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice

Edited by: Inna Horoshkina One

A youth congress is being held in Nice to tackle critical issues related to ocean protection. Sixty young individuals are meeting for three days, starting May 5th, to discuss and develop measures aimed at protecting marine environments [2].

The participants are drafting a manifesto with their proposals, which they will present at the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, commencing June 9th and concluding June 13th [2, 3]. This youth-led initiative is coordinated by Marie Barbieux, from the association des petits débrouillards [2, 4, 5].

The congress highlights the dedication of young people to influencing the future of ocean conservation through active participation and proposing policy recommendations at the UN Ocean Conference [2, 3]. The UN Ocean Conference will focus on accelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean [2].
