The BC Marine Energy and Decarbonization Hub was launched in British Columbia on April 22, 2025, to accelerate the development and commercialization of marine renewable energy and decarbonization technologies. This initiative, a core component of COAST and the University of Victoria, builds upon three decades of clean energy research.
The Hub aims to facilitate the adoption of decarbonization technologies and renewable marine energies within Canada's ocean industries. It will provide companies with opportunities to test technologies at coastal and marine test sites. Starting in late 2025, the Hub will also launch Innovation Challenges in partnership with regional stakeholders to engage with suitable technologies.
Located in British Columbia, which has Canada's largest maritime industry and extensive coastline, the Hub is well-positioned to drive significant change. Funding from federal and provincial governments, as well as the RBC Foundation, will support the Hub's operations from 2025 to 2028, maintaining crucial assets for resource assessment, innovation, and stakeholder engagement.
