Rome is undertaking significant urban forestation projects to improve its environment. These projects aim to enhance air quality, mitigate the urban heat island effect, and improve the well-being of its citizens, contributing to a more sustainable and livable city.
These initiatives are part of the "Litorale Romano Centro Settentrionale" project, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The plan includes planting approximately one million native trees and shrubs across 933 hectares, with 628 hectares located within Rome's territory.
Furthermore, on April 8, 2025, a new urban forest was inaugurated in the Mezzocammino district, featuring 500 new trees and shrubs. This is part of the national "Foresta Italia" campaign, supported by Rete Clima and Tecne, under the "Mille radici per il futuro" project. These efforts are essential for improving the urban landscape and enhancing the quality of life for Roman residents.
