Dubai Municipality has unveiled a Dh650 million ($176.97 million) development project for the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing biodiversity.
The project, divided into two phases, will rehabilitate mangrove habitats by planting new mangroves, increasing coverage by 60%. It also includes the creation of new habitats and expansion of water bodies.
Phase two will focus on infrastructure and recreational services, including a visitor center and trails. The project is expected to increase the number of visitors to the sanctuary six-fold, reaching between 250,000 and 300,000 annually.
Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1985, is a crucial nature reserve in Dubai, listed under the Ramsar Convention. It is home to nearly 450 species of flora and fauna, including 47 hectares of mangroves.
This project aligns with Dubai's economic agenda, supporting sustainable growth and ecological balance. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
