The City Nature Challenge (CNC) 2025 in Goa has yielded exciting discoveries, including sightings of rare butterfly species such as the Aberrant Oakblue and Banded Royal. These elusive butterflies were documented by Devesh Naik, a top contributor in the event.
Aditya Kakodkar of WWF-India emphasized the importance of documenting biodiversity to understand its extent and potential threats. The CNC encourages people to document biodiversity by uploading photos to the 'iNaturalist' app.
Goa ranked among the top performers in India, recording 20,265 nature observations and 1,927 species during the CNC, which took place from April 25 to 28. The state ranked fourth in India for observations and fifth for species. The event saw participation from 155 Goans.
