Historian Meenakshi Devaraj's #JusticeForAllFlowers initiative continues to gain momentum in Tamil Nadu in 2025, aiming to bring disappearing native flowers back into everyday life. Many once-common flowers, including various jasmine types and kanakambaram, have become increasingly rare.
Devaraj observed this decline and launched the initiative to revive the use of local flowers in garlands, decorations, and traditional practices. By increasing demand, the initiative hopes to motivate cultivators to grow these native species again, ensuring their preservation for future generations.
The initiative also focuses on documenting native flowers and traditional garland-making techniques, holding workshops to spread awareness. It encourages the use of local blooms in various aspects of life, from poo kolam to hair adornments, celebrating Tamil Nadu's rich floral heritage.
