A new tree species, *Cecropia manauara*, has been identified in Manaus, Central Amazon, and described in the journal *Acta Botanica Brasilica* on March 28, 2025. This discovery marks the tenth species of the *Cecropia* genus in the region. The tree can reach up to 20 meters in height and has large leaves. *Cecropia manauara* has been classified as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to its low population density and the rapid urbanization in the region. Molecular sequencing confirmed that this species is genetically distinct. The last *Cecropia* species was discovered more than 20 years ago in the Peruvian Andes. This recent discovery highlights the importance of conserving native forest fragments, especially in urban areas.
