Londrina's 'Water and Honey Garden' Boosts Native Bee Conservation and Biodiversity

The city of Londrina, Brazil, in partnership with Sanepar, has established the 'Water and Honey Garden' within Arthur Thomas Park. This educational initiative is designed to protect native stingless bees and promote sustainability. The garden is home to three hives of Jataí, Mirim, and Mandaçaia bees, which are threatened by urban expansion. These bees play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, ensuring food security, and balancing the ecosystem. The garden also features a variety of plants and flowers, including honey-producing seedlings, fruit trees, and unconventional edible plants, specifically chosen to provide food for these bee species. The 'Water and Honey Garden' will serve as an educational resource for schools and visitors, highlighting the importance of biodiversity, flora, environmental conservation, and water preservation.
