After two centuries, Montenegro has unveiled a botanical sensation: Petrolamium crnojevicii, a newly discovered plant genus and species. Found near the village of Štitari, this unique plant could become a national symbol and elevate Montenegro's position in the global botanical community. The discovery, made by researchers including Snežana Dragićević, was confirmed after genetic analysis in China. Named in honor of Ivan Crnojević, the plant grows in a sensitive habitat and is classified as critically endangered.
