The Uclés Monastery in Cuenca, Spain, is hosting a historic event: the display of the founding Papal Bull of the Order of Santiago, signed by Pope Alexander III in 1175.
This key medieval document returns to its origin for the first time in centuries, marking the 850th anniversary of the Order's religious foundation.
The Bull, recognizing the Order's religious foundation, will be exhibited for 48 hours, from July 4th to 6th, 2025, after being retrieved from the National Historical Archive.
Visitors can view the document in the monastery church, in a specially designed exhibition space.
Fernando Núñez Rebolo, president of the Fundación Fernando Núñez, highlighted the event's significance, calling it an "unprecedented privilege" to return to its origin. He emphasized it's a "re-encounter with our history, with our roots."
Alongside the Bull, a facsimile of the Tumbo Menor de Castilla is also on display. This edition, created using advanced techniques, preserves every detail of the original.
Both documents can be viewed together in this historic location, the Order's former headquarters, offering a unique experience to learn about the Order of Santiago.
This historic event offers a unique opportunity to delve into the rich history of the Order of Santiago.
