Brazil's Ibge Releases Inverted World Map Placing South At Top

Edited by: Anna 🎨 Krasko

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has released an official inverted world map. This map places Brazil at the center and the South at the top. The launch coincides with Brazil's active role in Global South debates. The country presides over Brics [Brics economic group] and Mercosul [Southern Common Market] and will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém [a city in Brazil]. The map highlights Brics, Mercosul, Portuguese-speaking countries, and the Amazon biome. It also marks Rio de Janeiro [a city in Brazil] as the Brics capital and Fortaleza [a city in Brazil] as the host of the Triple International Forum of the Global South Governance.
