Mysterious radio signals detected beneath the Antarctic ice have puzzled scientists since 2006. The Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA) experiment observed anomalous radio pulses, appearing to originate from below the horizon.
The Pierre Auger Observatory investigated these signals but found no conclusive evidence of upward-going air showers. The Payload for Ultrahigh Energy Observations (PUEO) is set to launch in December 2025 from McMurdo Station.
PUEO aims to detect impulsive radio signals from ultrahigh-energy neutrinos, potentially clarifying the nature of these anomalies. The origin of these signals remains unknown, with ongoing research exploring various hypotheses.
