Wildwood Devon Welcomes Rescued Brown Bear Cubs

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

Wildwood Trust, a conservation charity, welcomed brown bear cubs Malenky and Nanuq to their sanctuary in Devon in May 2025. The two-year-old siblings were born in Belgium after their mother was rescued from Ukraine.

Due to a lack of resources, the cubs were relocated to Wildwood Devon. Mark Habben, director of zoological operations, expressed excitement about providing a safe environment for them.

Malenky and Nanuq will join other rescued bears, including Mish and Lucy. Wildwood Devon provides a spacious woodland setting for the bears. The sanctuary relies on public support, with each bear costing approximately £70,000 annually.

Visitors can learn about the bears and contribute to conservation efforts.
