Pennsylvania Lawmaker Seeks to Restrict Sticky Traps to Licensed Pest Control

Edited by: Olga N

A Pennsylvania lawmaker is seeking to restrict the use of sticky traps, also known as glue traps, to licensed pest control professionals. These traps, used to capture mice and insects, employ a strong adhesive that can ensnare non-target animals.

Representative Zachary Mako supports the Moore Elementary Environmental Club's advocacy for humane treatment of wildlife. He plans to introduce legislation to limit the use of sticky traps to trained professionals only.

Mako's memo to legislators highlights the inhumane harm inflicted by sticky traps on both targeted and non-targeted species. Organizations like Humane World for Animals note that trapped animals often suffer severe injuries or death from exhaustion and dehydration.

The proposed legislation aims to reduce unnecessary harm to wildlife while promoting safer pest management practices. Pennsylvania would join a growing global trend of banning or regulating these traps.
