Pets at Home Halts Rabbit Sales Over Easter Weekend to Curb Impulse Buys and Promote Responsible Pet Ownership

Edited by: Olga N

Pets at Home, a major UK retailer, will temporarily ban the sale of rabbits in all 460 of its stores from Good Friday to Easter Monday. This decision aims to prevent impulse purchases of rabbits during the Easter season, when they are often associated with the holiday. The retailer has implemented this ban for several years due to concerns that people may not fully consider the long-term commitment required to care for rabbits. The RSPCA has warned about a rise in unwanted rabbits being abandoned after Easter. A tragic case in 2023 saw the RSPCA rescue over 160 rabbits from a single garage. Pets at Home will remain open and sell other small animals and supplies, emphasizing that the halt on rabbit sales prioritizes "pets before profit."
