PETA's Winter Rescue: Providing Warmth and Care to Neglected Dogs During Extreme Cold Colombia Considers Paid Leave for Pet Loss

Edited by: Olga N

PETA's Community Animal Project (CAP) fieldworkers braved extreme winter conditions to aid dogs left outside, providing insulated doghouses, straw bedding, fresh food and water, and toys. They also convinced owners to surrender animals in dire situations, like Natalie and her puppies, to shelters. Generous donations made this life-saving work possible, offering warmth and hope to dogs like Dino, Hazel, Domino, and others. Meanwhile, in Colombia, a bill has advanced to grant employees one day of paid leave upon the death of a pet dog or cat. The bill, which defines companion animals as non-wildlife members of a human family, requires proof of death from a certified veterinarian and a minimum of six months of ownership. This initiative aims to allow pet owners time to grieve their loss.
