Rare White Orca Spotted Among Migrating Pod off the Coast of Japan, Captivating Wildlife Photographer

Edited by: Olga N

A wildlife photographer in Rausu, Hokkaido, Japan, has captured stunning images and videos of a rare white orca migrating with its pod. N. Hayakawa, who spends 40-50 days annually observing orcas in the area, spotted the leucistic orca, marking his first encounter with a white killer whale in 15 years of photographing them.

Leucism, a condition causing pigment loss in certain areas, is different from albinism. The sighting has drawn significant attention, with Hayakawa assuring that the images and videos shared on social media are authentic and unedited. This sighting joins others, such as "Frosty" off the California coast, highlighting the existence of these unique color variations within orca populations.
