Dana Point, known as the dolphin and whale-watching capital, is hosting its 54th annual Festival of Whales from March 7-9. The event celebrates the California gray whale migration and other marine life. The festival was founded in 1971 by Don Hansen, who pioneered whale watching tours in Orange County.
The festival includes:
Welcoming of the Whales Ceremony at the Ocean Institute.
Cardboard Classic & Dinghy Dash, a cardboard boat-building contest.
Clam Chowder Cook-Off.
Little Pirates Treasure Hunt.
Stand Up to Trash Beach Cleanup.
A three-day carnival at Lantern Bay Park.
The festival also features live music, classic car shows, art displays, and whale-watching tours.
The event is a collaborative effort by Dana Point Harbor Partners, the city of Dana Point, and the Ocean Institute, aiming to highlight marine life, environmental stewardship, and the culture of Dana Point.
