In a village in Gujarat, India, residents are employing a unique method to protect their dogs from leopard attacks. Dogs are fitted with collars embedded with nails to deter the big cats, known to prey on them. These dogs play a crucial role in protecting crops from animals like pigs and blue bulls, and also serve as watchdogs, alerting villagers to potential dangers. Farmers created these collars using rubber strips from tires, piercing them with nails so the sharp ends stick outwards. The villagers believe that leopards typically attack their prey by biting the neck, and the nail-studded collars prevent the leopards from successfully doing so. According to villagers, since the dogs started wearing these collars, leopard attacks have decreased.
