Brazil: Government Proposes Minimum 10% Tax on Higher Incomes

Edited by: Elena Weismann

The Brazilian government is considering a proposal to establish a minimum 10% tax on higher incomes to promote tax justice. This measure aims to correct distortions, ensuring those currently paying lower rates contribute more.

Planning Minister Simone Tebet highlighted the need to reduce expenses without affecting the lower population strata. She also discussed the impact of the Continuous Benefit (BPC) on the budget, which is expected to increase.

The government's focus is on modernizing benefits and revising spending, with no plans for a new pension reform or decoupling pensions from the minimum wage.
