On April 6th, Kazakhstan's Natural Monopolies Regulation Agency established new ceiling prices for fuel, including VAT. This decision, formalized in a decree, regulates the sale of state-controlled oil products and is based on updated cost calculations from the Oil and Gas Ministry.
The price ceilings, effective from April 6th, are as follows: diesel fuel at 95 tenge ($0.64) per liter, AI-80 petrol at 91 tenge ($0.61) per liter, and AI-91 petrol at 112 tenge ($0.76) per liter. The Ministries of Oil and Gas, and Economic Development and Trade have approved the decree.
While this article refers to events from 2014, more recent changes in fuel pricing have occurred. For example, in May 2024, differentiated fuel prices were introduced, setting different rates for citizens and foreign nationals. As of January 2025, there have been discussions about potentially phasing out state regulation of fuel prices to align with market rates and address issues like illegal exports, with the Ministry of Energy considering a gradual liberalization of prices.
