Manitoba Budget: Increased Capital Spending, Payroll Tax Cut, and Homeowner Tax Credit Boost

The Manitoba government's annual budget includes significant increases in capital project spending and a mix of tax measures. Municipalities will receive four percent of the fuel tax for local projects like arenas and playgrounds. The province projects a deficit of $794 million, potentially rising to $1.9 billion due to sustained U.S. tariffs. The budget reduces the payroll tax for businesses by raising the threshold for tax application. Personal income tax brackets will no longer adjust for inflation. A homeowner tax credit will increase by $100 to $1,600. A new security system rebate for small and medium businesses, up to $2,500 per business, aims to reduce crime. Electric vehicle rebates will exclude Tesla vehicles and those made in China. Provincial park entry fees will be waived for one year.
