Indian Stock Market Soars on April 21, 2025: Sensex and Nifty Surge Amid Foreign Investment

Edited by: Olga Sukhina

The Indian stock market witnessed a significant rally on Monday, April 21, 2025, with both the Sensex and Nifty indices surging. This positive momentum follows a holiday-shortened week where both indices gained over 4%, fueled by renewed foreign investment and positive global cues.

The BSE Sensex opened at 79,105.49, a rise of 552 points or 0.70%. The NSE Nifty50 was at 23,996.50, up 145 points or 0.61%. The upward trend continued throughout the day, with the Sensex closing above 79,400 and Nifty surpassing the 24,100 mark, reaching levels not seen since January 6, 2025.

Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments, attributes this rally to India's resilient economy and a weakening dollar, attracting foreign portfolio investors (FPIs). FPIs have invested over $1 billion in the past three sessions, signaling confidence in India's growth potential. Top gainers included Tech Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, and HDFC Bank, with banking and IT stocks leading the charge.
