Ryan Gosling will star in Star Wars: Starfighter, Lucasfilm announced at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. The film is slated for release on May 28, 2027. Shawn Levy, known for directing Deadpool & Wolverine, will direct the standalone adventure.
Gosling expressed his enthusiasm for the project at the event, sharing a childhood photo featuring Star Wars-themed bedsheets. He joked about his mother preserving the sheets.
Levy clarified that Starfighter will be an original story set five years after The Rise of Skywalker. The film will feature new characters and explore an uncharted period in the Star Wars timeline. Production is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2025.
