Two of his songs, "I Wanna Love You" (featuring Snoop Dogg) and "Smack That" (featuring Eminem), simultaneously held the top two positions on the Billboard Hot 100. He also collaborated with artists such as Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, and Gwen Stefani.
Akon's decision follows a trend of pop and rap artists exploring country music. Snoop Dogg is working on a gospel album with a country collaboration, and BigXthaPlug has released a duet with Bailey Zimmerman. Akon is also set to appear on Gary LeVox's song "Hold the Umbrella."
