On Thursday, Shopify announced the rollout of USDC payments via Coinbase's Base network, expanding its crypto checkout options.
This move allows merchants to accept USDC stablecoins through Shopify Payments and Shop Pay throughout the year. The integration aims to provide fast, cheap, and secure transactions.
Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke highlighted the potential for buyer incentives, such as 1% cashback in local currency payouts.
Coinbase's Base blockchain is the fourth-largest network for USDC, representing 6% of the stablecoin's total supply of $61 billion. Shopify has supported Bitcoin payments since 2013 and offers integrations with various crypto payment gateways.
The partnership is not the first collaboration between Shopify and Coinbase in the crypto space. They previously joined Meta's Diem stablecoin project.
