Spar Switzerland Tests Bitcoin Payments Amidst Growing Crypto Adoption

Edited by: Света Света

On April 16, SPAR, a global grocery retailer with 13,900 stores across 48 countries, reportedly began testing Bitcoin and Lightning Network payments in Zug, Switzerland.

A LinkedIn user reported seeing a SPAR store in Zug, known as Crypto Valley, accepting Bitcoin payments. This trial marks one of the largest crypto payment tests by a major retail chain.

This move comes as Switzerland sees growing crypto adoption, with ownership rising from 6% in 2022 to 10% in 2024, according to a Swiss National Bank (SNB) survey.
