Google's New Crypto Ad Policy in the EU

Google announced that starting April 23, cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets advertising in the European Union must hold a license under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. This policy impacts all 27 EU member states.

Advertisers must obtain certification from Google and demonstrate registration as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) under MiCA. They also need to comply with country-specific legal obligations.

MiCA Compliance and Transition

Google will allow a temporary reprieve for crypto platforms already advertising in France, Germany, and Finland under local rules. These national licenses will remain valid until mid-to-late 2025, aligning with each country's MiCA transition period.

Google will issue a warning at least seven days before any enforcement action for non-compliance. Several exchanges, including OKX and Bitpanda, are already MiCA compliant.
