On April 8, New York Assemblymember Clyde Vanel introduced Bill A07716, proposing a study on using blockchain to secure voter records and election results. The bill directs the state Board of Elections to evaluate blockchain's potential benefits, with a report due within one year. The study will include input from blockchain, cybersecurity, and election experts. This initiative follows similar efforts, such as the use of Bitcoin's network to secure election results in Williamson County, Tennessee, in early March. Vanel has also introduced legislation to combat cryptocurrency fraud and established a cryptocurrency task force in January.
