UK Partners with Google Cloud to Modernize Public Sector IT and Upskill Civil Servants

Edited by: Olga Sukhina

The UK government has formed a strategic partnership with Google Cloud. The goal is to modernize outdated public sector IT systems.

This initiative aims to upskill 100,000 civil servants in digital and AI by 2030. The project seeks to replace legacy technology, which leaves essential services vulnerable to cyberattacks.

The partnership will focus on modernizing services like the NHS and local councils. The government hopes to save up to £45 billion by adopting Google Cloud's secure cloud technology.

Google DeepMind will work with government experts to deploy AI. A training program will equip civil servants with AI and digital skills. This aligns with the UK's goal to be a global AI leader.

The UK is also investing £1 billion to scale up AI computing capabilities. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang noted the UK's lack of digital infrastructure. The government is committed to building more labs and data centers to support AI innovation.
