Perplexity AI & PayPal Integrate for AI-Powered 'Agentic Commerce' in 2025

Edited by: Olga Sukhina

Perplexity AI has partnered with PayPal to introduce 'agentic commerce' capabilities to the Perplexity Pro platform in the U.S., starting this summer. This collaboration aims to simplify online shopping, booking, and purchasing by enabling instant checkouts via PayPal or Venmo directly within Perplexity's chat interface.

Users can complete transactions in real-time through natural conversation, eliminating the friction typically associated with online commerce. PayPal's secure tokenized wallet, passkey checkout flows, and integrated services such as account linking, shipping, tracking, and invoicing will power this new commerce capability behind the scenes. These features aim to remove the need for passwords and streamline purchases to a single click or query.

Key Benefits of the Partnership

The integration of PayPal's commerce solutions allows users to buy products or services directly within Perplexity's chat interface. This partnership extends Perplexity's commerce tools to PayPal's over 430 million active accounts across approximately 200 markets. The collaboration also leverages PayPal's fraud detection and data security protocols, ensuring secure transactions.

Perplexity, backed by investors like Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, and SoftBank, is reportedly in talks to raise $500 million, potentially valuing the company at $14 billion.
