U.S. Vice President JD Vance is currently on a four-day visit to India, arriving in Delhi on Monday, April 21, 2025. Discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi are expected to center on trade relations, with India seeking to avoid potential U.S. tariffs and negotiate a bilateral trade deal. Vance's visit takes place amidst ongoing negotiations between New Delhi and Washington, aiming to resolve issues like tariffs and market access.

The U.S. is India's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching $129 billion in 2024. Both countries are aiming to increase this to $500 billion by 2030. Trump's administration had previously imposed a 26% tariff on India, but this is currently paused until July 2025. Discussions also covered cooperation in energy, defense, and strategic technologies.

Vance's visit included a tour of the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple and a visit to the Central Cottage Industries Emporium, accompanied by his wife Usha Vance and their children. Modi and Vance also exchanged views on regional and global issues, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy.
