Google Cuts Hundreds of Jobs in Android, Chrome, and Pixel Teams After Restructuring

Google has laid off hundreds of employees across its Android, Chrome, and Pixel teams, which are part of the Platforms and Devices division. This move, confirmed on April 11, 2025, follows Alphabet's 2023 reduction of 12,000 employees and is part of an ongoing effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency. A Google spokesperson stated that the cuts are a result of merging the Platform and Devices teams in April 2024, aiming for greater agility. This division is responsible for key Google products, including Android, Chrome, ChromeOS, Pixel hardware, Nest, Fitbit, Google Photos, and Google One. The layoffs follow a voluntary departure program offered in January 2025.
