Trump's Tariffs Threaten Renewable Energy Boom, Raising Solar and Wind Costs

New tariffs imposed by President Trump on imported goods, particularly from China and Southeast Asia, are expected to significantly increase the prices of solar panels, wind turbines, and batteries. These tariffs, ranging up to 49%, may discourage new solar installations and raise the cost of onshore wind projects by an estimated 7%. Vanessa Sciarra of the American Clean Power Association warns that this "policy whiplash" could undermine the development of a domestic supply chain and hinder energy security efforts. While domestic manufacturing of clean energy products is growing, it remains insufficient to offset the impact of these tariffs.
