WestJet Launches Starlink Wi-Fi on Select Flights Amid Musk Controversy

Montreal - WestJet has initiated on-board Wi-Fi service via Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet. Currently, 16 of WestJet's approximately 140 aircraft offer free Wi-Fi, following federal certification. The airline aims to equip its narrow-body fleet by year-end and wide-body aircraft before 2027. This enhanced connectivity arrives amid growing controversy surrounding Elon Musk. Other carriers like United Airlines and Air France also use Starlink. WestJet selected Starlink after a competitive bidding process that began in 2023, in a multi-year agreement involving Telus, announced in July.
