Tech Giants Embrace Nuclear Energy to Power AI Data Centers: Amazon, Google, and Others Aim for Tripling Nuclear Power by 2050

Leading tech companies, including Amazon and Google, are increasingly turning to nuclear energy to meet the growing power demands of AI data centers. On March 12th, these firms signed a pledge advocating for increased investment in nuclear energy, aiming to triple nuclear power capacity by 2050. This initiative emerged during the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston, Texas, where the World Nuclear Association (WNA) and other industry players also signed the pledge. The move signifies a renewed interest in nuclear energy as a stable and climate-independent power source, especially crucial for the energy-intensive operations of AI technologies. Microsoft previously signed a 20-year nuclear energy procurement agreement with Constellation Energy, paving the way for other tech giants to follow suit in securing nuclear power for their AI infrastructure.
