San Francisco, California - X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a significant cyberattack on Monday, causing widespread outages. Elon Musk, the owner of X, stated the platform faced a massive cyberattack, disrupting access for users across Asia, Europe, and North America. Reports indicated over 40,000 users were affected at the peak of the disruption. Musk suspects the attack originated from IP addresses in Ukraine, but provided no concrete evidence. A pro-Palestinian hacker group Dark Storm Team claimed responsibility for the attack. The cyberattack follows criticism of Musk's role in government efficiency initiatives, including federal workforce reductions. Tesla, another company led by Musk, has also faced attacks, including vandalism and arson at dealerships and storage units.
