Edited by: alya myart

A wheel of Cabrales cheese fetched a staggering €36,000 (approximately $42,232) at an auction in Arenas de Cabrales, Spain.

This sale set a new Guinness World Record for the most expensive cheese ever sold at auction. The cheese was produced in 2024 and has been aged for ten months.

The winning cheese, produced by Ángel Díaz Herrero dairy, was crowned "Best Cheese of the Competition." The auction saw nine bidders vying for the prize, with Iván Suárez of El Llagar de Colloto securing the winning bid.

Cabrales cheese, known for its distinctive blue veins and strong flavor, is aged in natural caves in the Picos de Europa mountains. The annual auction, a tradition since 1968, highlights the cheese's growing international recognition.
