Gavdos, the southernmost island of Greece, now provides free drinking water at its Karave port with a newly installed "Water Kiosk". This initiative allows both residents and visitors to easily refill their water bottles.
The project, supported by €34,100 from the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, aims to reduce reliance on single-use plastic bottles. By promoting the reuse of bottles, the island hopes to minimize waste production and protect its environment.
Using advanced water treatment technologies, the autonomous system can produce up to six cubic meters of clean water daily. While the kiosk is located in Karave, which is away from the main tourist areas, it represents a significant step towards sustainability for Gavdos.
