India is experiencing a significant surge in spiritual tourism. This follows the Maha Kumbh Mela, with travelers preparing for the Chardham and Amarnath Yatras. Digital travel platform Agoda's data reflects this growing interest in culturally and spiritually significant destinations. Prayagraj has seen a remarkable rise in popularity. The city climbed to number 11 for domestic searches and number 15 for inbound travelers. This surge is attributed to the return of the Mahakumbh Mela after 12 years. Agoda reported a 233% year-on-year increase in domestic accommodation searches for Prayagraj. Other domestic destinations like Ayodhya, Rishikesh, and Vrindavan also experienced ranking increases. Varanasi and Amritsar saw a noticeable uptick among inbound travelers. Gaurav Malik of Agoda notes the growing trend of travelers seeking cultural connection and personal meaning. This interest in India's spiritual destinations highlights a shift in travel preferences.
