Visa Waiver Program for Romania Faces Potential Delay Amid US Immigration Concerns: A Look at the Implications for Travelers

Romania's inclusion in the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP) may face delays due to the Trump administration's focus on combating immigration and strengthening borders. While the official VWP website indicates the date for visa-free travel to the US for Romanians is yet to be announced, discussions are underway regarding a potential postponement. Despite Romania fulfilling all security requirements for VWP entry, the US Department of Homeland Security is reviewing the decision. The Romanian Ambassador to the US, Andrei Muraru, stated that there has been no official communication regarding changes to the initial entry date. An official event in January celebrated Romania's inclusion in the VWP, with expectations of visa-free travel by the end of March 2025. US Ambassador to Romania, Kathleen Kavalec, anticipated stronger bilateral relations and increased economic ties. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously announced that Romanian citizens would be able to travel to the US for tourism or business without a visa around March 31, 2025.
