Thailand to Halve Visa-Free Stay for Tourists to 30 Days Amid Concerns Over Illegal Activities

Edited by: Елена 11

Thailand is reducing its visa-free stay for tourists from 60 to 30 days due to concerns about foreigners engaging in illegal activities. Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong announced the change, impacting citizens from 93 countries who previously enjoyed a longer visa-free period since July 2024. The decision follows alarms raised by the Association of Thai Travel Agents regarding unauthorized work and business operations by foreigners. The Thai Hotels Association also cited the extended visa-free period as a potential factor in the illegal rental of condominium units to tourists. Tourism is vital to Thailand's economy, and the country aims to attract over 40 million foreign tourists in 2025. As of March 9, 2025, Thailand has already welcomed 7.66 million tourists, a 4.4% increase year-over-year. The visa adjustment seeks to balance tourism growth with addressing illegal activities.
